What causes bumps on nipples?

I think you are referring to Montgomery's tubercles. They are normal and may become more exaggerated with pregnancy. It is thought that they secrete protective substances to help prevent infection and to protect the delicate skin. You DO not want to try and get rid of them. Even simply squeezing them too hard can cause an infection. Be nice to your body, many people find those bumps to be beautiful. Nothing to be ashamed of most women have them.
