Update: 9/26/2008
On July 21st 2008, radio listeners throughout the Washington DC Metro area tuned to ESPN Redskins Radio at 4:00 pm to listen to their favorite radio personality, John Riggins. To their dismay, The John Riggins radio show was no longer on the air. In early June, Redskins owner Dan Snyder reached a deal to buy three local AM radio stations from Clear Channel Communications, including Sportstalk 980 WTEM. The deal essentially gave Snyder's Red Zebra Broadcasting control over sports talk radio in Washington. As a result ESPN Redskins Radio and Sportstalk 980 WTEM have combined into ESPN 980. John Riggins now makes spot appearances on various ESPN 980 shows and he's also hosting an NFL show on Sirius. An online campaign has been created to bring The John Riggins Show back on the radio. The campaign is on the web at
