Canadian athlete, Terry Fox, stopped his run on September 1, 1980 near Thunder Bay, Ontario, after running more than 5000kms on a prosthetic leg to raise money for cancer research. His run was ended by the cancer that had claimed his leg, which now had entered his lungs and, sadly, claimed his life a few months later.
He is considered by many as Canada's greatest hero.
