Well, I came across the same book in some stuff I purchased and was wondering myself. I looked on the internet under the title of the book and there was 1 sale. It went for $175, however, the book that sold had over 20 Autographs including those of Dom DiMaggio, Duke Snyder and a few others on the inside of the back cover autograph section. I'd deduct because neither your book or mine have the autographs; say $30-$50 bucks. you might be able to find someone that would give you more just from the collector's side of things.

Joe DiMaggio retired from baseball after the 1951 season. The story you are looking for could not have happened in 1976. In 1949 Joe DiMaggio was almost traded to Boston for Ted Williams. One story has it that the Yankees refused to include Yogi Berra and the deal fell through. Others say, the trade talks took place in a bar, and the next morning the parties involved sobered up.
