Yes, he was.
Sears Taylor was my patient for about 20 years, I knew him well. We often talked about his cycling career and the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin. He vividly recalled seeing Hitler show up at he games one day and the effect it had on the atmosphere in the stadium. He did not win any medals at those games and they were not held again until 1948. But he did win a major long distance cycling event in New York some years later (1942?) which made him arguably the best long distance cyclist in the world at that time. Sears served with great distinction in the Seals in WWII and was one of only about 5% of Seals who survived. He remained incredibly fit throughout his life and won his last cycle race against all comers at the age of 68. I had to stop him from rollerblading after major surgery when he was about 80.

To determine the year of a Sears 3-speed bicycle, you would typically need to look for specific identifying features such as the serial number, model name, or any decals that indicate the year of manufacture. Sears bicycles were produced in various decades, with notable models released in the 1960s to 1980s. If you can provide more details or context about the bike, it may be possible to narrow down the year more accurately.
