How did George Karl get that scar?

The scar results from a boyhood dog bite, according to an article by Scott Raab, printed in the April 1, 2002, issue of Esquire Magazine. The article also delves into Karl's abiding love for his son, Coby, drafted in 2007 by the Los Angeles Lakers (Coby made the team, but was mired at the far end of the bench in his rookie season). Raab also discloses that Karl, one of the winningest coaches in NBA history, hasn't worn underwear since his college days, when he discovered that underwear need to be washed all the time.

It's rumored George Karl got the scar when dove for a loose ball during his playing days as a guard for Dean Smith at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
