The mass media includes television, newspapers, social sites on the internet, and radio news. What the mass media broadcasts may be accurate or biased however people viewing and reading media coverage of events can be influenced to "buy into" the "news. The most recent example was a TV network altering the 911 tapes between Zimmerman and the 911 people. By splicing the audio, they made Zimmerman seem to be offended by Mr. Martin being Black. The TV station left out that Zimmerman was asked by 911 the race of the "suspect". Thus people hearing the doctored tape thought that Zimmerman was a racist.

Media effects us, because if you ever realize that most people you see on TV and in magazines and what not all have a certain look. They are skinny, have lots of money, etc. Most of the time these things can be photoshopped, but people want to look like celebrities. If everyone they see if super skinny they might think they are fat and develop an eating disorder for example.
