To securely install a copper pipe strap, follow these best practices: Use the correct size strap for the pipe diameter. Position the strap evenly along the pipe. A filter wrench. The kind which uses a strap and attaches to a ratchet would probably suit you best.
You wrap the strap around whatever you are taking off, then thread it into the wrench so it will tighten as you push.
I generally use four pieces of "unistrut" to make a mounting bracket. I attach the unistrut to the pole using either lag screws or strap. It needs to be secure.
