The Woodlawn Vase (Preakness Stakes Trophy) has ALWAYS stood at 34 inches high and is easily the most valuable trophy in sports. It weighs 29 lbs 12 oz. It was designed by Tiffany's & Co.

The Stanley Cup was originally just the 7.28 inch "silver bowl' at the top of the trophy we've come to know today. It was redesigned in 1963 to have the four large tiers. The fact that the Stanley Cup is now 35 inches tall makes me wonder if they added the tiers in such a way just to be taller than the Woodlawn. It weighs 34.5 lbs.

The Woodlawn Vase is also much older, having been commissioned in 1861 to Lord Stanley's 1892. The largest trophy in sport is bestowed to CSKA Sofia in friendly international tournament in Morocco in honor of Mohammed V in 1967. It weights nearly 100 kg (220 lbs). This cup is currently in CSKA Sofia's museum.

The oldest trophy in North American sports is the Stanley Cup. The cup was established in 1892, and unlike the other pro sports which make a new trophy every season, the Stanley Cup belongs to the team that won it that year, and then is passed on to the next season champions.

This may be true for North American Sports, but for world sports the oldest trophy that is past on to the next winner is either the Americas Cup (but not sure if it is past on or they make a new one every year) or the "Ashes urn" which is played for every 2 years between Australia and England in cricket, the first test series was played in 1877 which Australia won. The English burnt the Bails from the game in disgust at the loss and put them into a little wooden urn.... that same urn in what the two nations play for today the "urn" is too old or fragile to leave England so it sits in the "Long Room" at the Lords cricket ground in England in either the Australian Cabinet or the England Cabinet..... The Urn is about as small as a Human hand.....

The Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy for an annually (yearly) contested for sports championship. Unlike other championship trophies that are contested for every two or four years.

Not totally true. The Americas Cup is the oldest (1851) but the Stanley Cup is not the oldest annually awarded championship trophy...not even close.

The Football Association (FA) Cup has been played for annually in England since 1871. The Calcutta Cup (a Rugby trophy) has also been awarded annually since 1872.

Also since 1872 the Claret Jug has been awarded in golf to the winner of the Open Championship (the British Open)

Finally...though not a pro sport trophy...the oldest trophy in sport is the Scorton Silver Arrow awarded in Archery. It has been contested annually since 1673 (although a replica trophy is now used as the original is kept safely in a museum)
