It is important to have written evacuation procedures for a couple reasons. First and foremost is safety. When in writing, people can go back and revive their memory on the subject at any time and can be handy to anyone. Make sure to post inside buildings in many locations, and if hazards are around (chemical, bio, etc.) make sure local authorities (police, fire, etc.) are aware and know procedures as well. Secondly it is for liability. If the place that needs an evac plan does not employ one, said place can and probably would be liable for any injuries or loss of property that anyone would occur.
