It is difficult to say that which one is better pilates or yoga. Both are body fitness system but to say that 'which one better' depends upon individual's requirement. Yoga is an exercise system that provides physical fitness along with mental wellness while if you are looking for flat abdomen and strong back then pilates is good for you.
They are similar, both are low impact forms of exercise, but pilates has a very specific focus on the abdomen. Pilates works from the idea that once you strengthen your core, everything else follows. The breathing patterns used are also different. Personally, my muscles feel like they've had a better workout after pilates, but both are very enjoyable!
While they both provide a body-mind connection, The Pilates Method is a form of exercises that is continues movement through a class or session while Yoga is traditionally holidng movements.

Second if you have to turn to the internet for your weight loss problems you need to get a life. Maybe that's why your fat cause you sit on the computer all day. While forms of exercise are beneficial. The Pilates Method will provide a better sense of core & stability.
A stabilizing ball is more used for pilates. Yoga only has minimal equipment.

Pilates focuses on the mind/body connection (but not in a spiritual way) and is done at a flowing, faster paced. Some of the exercises are similar but the bulk of the exercises are very different.

Yoga mats have long been used in Pilates classes however there are a new line of thikcer mats that have been introduced over the years.
Doing any form of exercise can cause further injury to a knee. Pilates is no exception. Yoga would probably be a better choice for this situation.
