Muscle mass is important in maintaining a healthy body. Depending on age and physical activity level, the average muscle mass percentage lies between 38% and 54% for men and between 28% and 39% for women.
A healthy muscle mass percentage is 28 percent, which is the average. Some may have 36 percent or more, and that is fine too. The more muscle mass you have, the higher the number will be.
There are 3 types of body muscle. I suppose you mean skeletal muscle (then ones you can actively move and see). According to Wikipedia, 42% of the body mass of an average adult male consists of skeletal muscle. For an average adult female it is 36%.

depends on how much of that is fat and how much is muscle.... keep in mind body mass index dont consider that muscle weights more than fat due to its high density
