The average distance of a track is 1/4 mile, walking it should take you approx 5 minutes base that you walk 2-3mph. On average I walk 2 miles a day or what would be 8 laps in 40 minutes.

What you want to start off doing is what is just beyond comfort for you and build from there. If you are fully comfortable you are not pushing yourself to do better. For me 2 miles around the city is hard; constant stopping and hills.

I am 240 lbs and 27yo just to give you an example.
