When you drink a whey protein shake, you are drinking calories instead of eating them. Yes, you could drink all your food instead of eating it, but why? There is no one perfect food. Every nutritional authority recommends consuming a wide variety of foods. This recommendation makes sense. Why? Well, you are the successful product of millions of years of evolution. Your ancestors ate a wide variety of foods and often their only drink was water. They were healthier, leaner, stronger, and fitter than we are! You would do well to emulate them. Whey protein comes from dairy products. Until the domestication of animals some 12,000 years ago, humans did not consume any dairy products at all. You do not need to consume any whey for excellent health or strength. On the other hand, as long as you tolerate whey, microfiltered, ion-exchanged whey protein shakes are very good for you. There's no reason not to have one or two a day. No nutritionist, however, would recommend trying to live on them.
