The fastest horse to ever run was Secretariat who won the Kentucky Derby among other races. He sired more than 300 foals and died at age 19 because his legs had a disease that killed him.He is still considered the fastest horse that ever lived. If you don't believe me go to Kentucky Horse Park and see the statue for yourself.

In contradiction to the above response, many will tell you that Man o' War was the greatest/fastest racehorse who ever lived. While Secretariat was indeed a great horse, there is a much stronger argument for Man o' War being the greatest.
He only lost one race in his career, and that was due to a combination of bad luck, rider error, and strategy of other riders to keep Man o' War boxed in. One of the opposing jockeys was heard saying that he almost wished he had let Man o' War through because he really deserved that win.
It is also common knowledge that, despite having won 20 of his 21 races, he was never even allowed to run at his fastest speed. His stride was an incredible 28 feet, which is 5ft longer than Secretariat's.
"Man o'War was selected as the greatest horse of the century by a six-member panel of experts assembled by The Associated Press. He received four first-place votes to one for Secretariat." - Source: ESPN
Man o' War was not a Triple Crown winner because his owner refused to start him in the Kentucky Derby, feeling that it was too early in a 3-year-old's life to run that distance.
He beat his only competitor in the Belmont Stakes by 20 lengths while being held in for much of the race. His margin of victory in the Lawrence Realization at Belmont Park in 1920 was 100 lengths. He also beat the world record for that distance by 6 seconds. To the best of my knowledge, the track record still stands.
Despite never running all out, Man o' War set a number of records that stood for years, even though tracks have been treated to have faster running surfaces.
At the end of his third season, he ran with equal weight (138 pounds, which is unheard of for a 3-year-old) against the previous year's Triple Crown winner, Sir Barton. Again, he was not allowed to run all out, but he beat Sir Barton by 7 lengths.
He did not race after his campaign as a 3-year-old because no horse owners were willing to run against him at equal weights, and it was understood that handicappers would have to assign him an incredibly high impost in an attempt to make the races even for other horses, and the owner was not willing to risk having this great colt breaking down under unreasonable weight assignments.
Sire of War Admiral, and grand-sire of Seabiscuit, among others, Man o' War is in the lineage of many of the greatest horses of the 20th century. He died in 1947, and his remains are at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, where there is also a life-size statue of him.
Kinda a 2 way tie. The Arabian horse and the thoroughbred are the fastest horses. People always say that the TB is but make sure you correct them and add the Arabian to there answer! Arabians are famous for many thangs there beauty, high tail action, speed, stamina, conformation, agility, and temperment. They are very beautiful creatures and so is the thoroughbred the main race horse breed. They are famous for only one thing, there speed. They cant go LONG distances like the majestic Arabian breed but that doesnt mean they cant run a a mile or two! But it the Arabian may just come in first!
Secretariat. All one has to do is watch clips of the '73 Triple Crown. He set records that will never be broken. His time of 2:24 flat for the mile and a half Belmont knocked nearly three seconds off the old mark. And after trailing the first part of the Preakness,he came on with a burst of speed that amazed everyone, going from last to first in 100 yards!
Thoroughbreds are generally the fastest, as they are the most popular breed of racehorse. Quarter Horses can run the fastest for a quarter of a mile, hence their name, but are not the fastest overall. In other parts of the world, Arabians are also commonly used for racing.
my horse sandy her speed is 1000000000000000000000000000000 km an hour
The Quarter Horse is fastest for sprints. They race a quarter-mile. Thoroughbreds are fastest for anything longer than that. Arabians are best for endurance. The fastest mile for a horse was around 1 minute, 35 seconds. This record was set by the TB racehorse Salvador.
the fastest horse on record was the racehorse Secritariat who ran an estimated 55 miles an hour
Secretariat, the all-time fastest racehorse, could run at a top speed of about 45 miles per hour. However, I would say that an average racehorse can run at around 30 to 35 miles per hour. I really hope that this answered your question.
