Jockey's Ridge State Park was created in 1975.
He was a pretty popular jockey who rode from 1973 until 1999. He is also known as Larry Saumell. His main circuits were New Jersey, Maryland, Kentucky, and Florida. He won over 2000 races during an injury-plagued career winning several derbies such as the Tropical Park Derby, Pennsylvania Derby.

Frank Hayes, a jockey, died on June 4, 1923, after suffering a heart attack during a horse race at Belmont Park, New York. He amazingly won the race despite being deceased.
