Man o war didn't win the triple crown. He won the preakness and the Belmont and most likely would have won the derby however he was never entered in it due to his trainer wanting to rest him. He won every race except one which made his stats 20 for 21. Even without having won the triple crown He was named the greatest racehorse in history.
War Admiral
Seabiscuit [May 23, 1933 - May 17, 1947] never won any Kentucky Derby. He was named 'Horse of the Year' in 1938. But that was for his performance in races other than the Derby. It also was for his victory of November 1, 1938 over War Admiral [1934 - 1959], the Triple Crown winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont and Preakness Stakes in the previous year.
War Admiral was born in 1934, in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.
NO His owner felt the distance of the Kentucky Derby was too long for 3 year-old horses. Man o War never ran in Kentucky. He raced mainly in New York State. He stood at stud in Kentucky. His famous son, War Admiral ran in the Kentucky Derby and won the Triple Crown. He was not as large as his sire. His nickname was the Mighty Atom. He got an X factor large heart from his dam. Man o' War was one of the greatest race horses of all time. He was sired by Fair Play, out of the mare Mahubah. Some of his famous offspring include the 1929 Kentucky Derby winner, Clyde Van Dusen, and the 1937 Triple Crown winner, War Admiral. He was also the grandsire of Seabiscuit, who beat War Admiral in a famous match race in 1938.
He did not. The first race in the Triple Crown is the Kentucky Derby. The Derby is restricted to three year olds. Seabiscuit was a late bloomer, when he was three he was lame and cranky due to overwork and excessive training. To compete at that level he would have had to be winning consistantly against some very tough competition.
As of June 2008 he was standing at stud for Japan.
in not totaly sure but i think his name was longshot
Clark Jr. started the Kentucky Derby on behalf of a group of businessmen in Louisville who wanted to bring the horse industry back to Kentucky. During the Civil War many of the horses in Kentucky were used for battle, and after the war they rarely made it back to their farms. To really bring the breeding and racing industry back to the state we needed something that would attract the best of the best. The Derby became a large social event so that it wouldn't be compared to the other races that existed at the time and weren't succeeding in attracting the horsemen. It worked and the Derby is currently the longest continuously running sporting event in the country.
War Admiral died in 1959.
