Secretariat was the first American thoroughbred horse to win the Triple Crown. After a highly distinguished racing career, Secretariat was named Horse of the Year and put out to stud. He sired several horses that also went on to become champion racers.
In 1989 Secretariat was diagnosed with laminitis. The disease was incurable, and Secretariat was euthanized on October 4, 1989.
Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973. Sir Barton was the first to win in 1919.

Many different horses played the role of Secretariat. I know that every scene with a horse rearing up is "Mr. T".
