I'm not a big fan of futurities. "Futurity" means future or the young horse's future as a winner. Futurities are limited to very young horses only, usually not over 2. Young horses are pushed too hard much too early and it could set a precident of a life time of injuries and behavior problems.
Barrel racing is a very strenuous sport. Sharp turns and full-out running is hard on even mature horses. It can be disasterous for young horses that still have wide-open knee plates and softer, immature joints.
Barrel racing should be left for mature, sound, good-boned and good-minded horses and a caring and careful rider.
The 1st horse to win the National cutting horse association futurity was Peptos Chic Olena. The owner of the horse was Todd Bimat.

The Snaffle Bit Futurity is a prestigious horse training and competition event in the Western riding discipline. It typically focuses on the training of young horses, usually three-year-olds, in the use of a snaffle bit. The competition evaluates the horse's performance in various maneuvers, such as reining, cutting, and cow work, showcasing the horse's training and skills under the guidance of a skilled rider. The event often attracts top trainers and riders in the Western horse industry, and winning the Snaffle Bit Futurity is considered a significant achievement in the Western performance horse world.
