If your horse is young, it'll be bound to be more lively and they will be able to run longer, unlike an older horse who has worked hard and just can't handle it any more.

I am going to take a guess on this, but I think it would be as a yearling or a two year old. I base my thinking on the age horses run for the large horse races. They are in those age range.
