Seabiscuit's only race in 1939 was in February at Santa Anita at which point he injured the suspensory ligament in his front leg.
Seabiscuit was born in 1933, ran as a two-year old, and retired after his victory at Santa Anita in 1940. So his racing career was about a five year span, minus the time he spent recuperating after a suspensory ligament injury.
Seabiscuit was the 'goodwill ambassidor' for depression-era America. More popular than President Roosevelt, the small racehorse proved that the underdog could win. Most people love a rags-to-riches story and Seabiscuit was the perfect example. Even when not racing The Biscuit could draw and hold a crowd like none other before him. Seabiscuit died at his home in Northern California and still attracts fans to the ranch, numbering thousands every year, to pay their respects to one of the most celebrated racehorses in the history of Thoroughbred racing. *Point of interest:There is a life-sized statue of Seabiscuit at Santa Anita Racetrack to honor the life of this amazing animal.

Seabiscuit had a long career and had more starts in his maiden year than most Thoroughbreds run in an entire career. In 89 starts The Biscuit travelled extensively from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic seaboard, and as far north as the Canadain border to Mexico. He raced at Saratoga, Pimlico, Santa Anita, Tanforan, Bay Meadows to name a few. As he began to win on a consistant basis, he went from smaller tracks in California to the larger, more prestigious tracks and of course earned bigger purses for his owners.
Unless I am mistaken, the 2012 BC at Santa Anita will be carried on ESPN.
