While Paso Finos are known for their smooth gait and elegant movements, they are not typically used for barrel racing. This discipline is more commonly associated with horses that are agile, quick, and have a strong turning ability, characteristics that Paso Finos may not excel in compared to breeds like Quarter Horses or Paints.

Quarter horses have the ideal barrel racing conformation, with their well defined hindquarters, they are able to jump into a run from the starting gate and turn on a dime. Arabians are not built much like quarter horses. They can be good starter barrel horses, but if you want to go to the higher levels you need a horse with the build of a quarter horse.
