The 'Cream' is a type of grease called 'eventing grease'. It's used to help the horse 'slide' over a jump and not injure itself. It has been found however that the grease doesn't really provide any protection and that it interferes with the horses ability to sweat, more and more eventers are now turning away from using the grease.
