Honestly, yes they should, but many do not. Some people only think you need to worry about wearing a cup, but boys should keep their genitals supported anytime they run or workout, to prevent twisting or soreness. At a minimum a guy should wear something supportive like compression shorts, or tight briefs, but jocks really do the best while still letting things breathe. There's youth and teen sizes out there too, so even if you're just starting to grow it's important to start wearing a jockstrap.

'Based on an internet search of rules for PE and after school sports, at some high schools jockstraps are required, especially for boys playing on sports teams but also for PE at some schools. Usually, the rules refer to them as "athletic supporters". One school district has the following policy: "Minimum appropriate attire for boys and girls is considered to be: shorts, T-shirt, tennis shoes, socks, and for middle and high school boys, an athletic supporter." One high school has an "Information Letter To Boys High School Lacrosse Players and Parents" that lists among required equipment for both practices and games "Athletic supporter with protective cup".

I doubt it. Boys generally don't really need to wear jockstraps unless they are required to wear cups (e.g. for Baseball), particularly if they wear briefs. If they wear boxers, briefs or a jock might be helpful with some sports--but let the boy decide what's most comfortable for him.

No, they should not.

Outside of North America, it is very rare for males to wear jockstraps. This is because they could actually be harmful. Many schools in North America itself are even advising against them.

Jockstraps can cause:

  • Decreased circulation. In the long term this can cause erectile issues such as erectile dysfunction, cause damage to the veins in the organ or blood clots.
  • Tinea cruris. This is the medical definition of groin infection, which leads to painful or irritating itching. Itching the groin transfers the infectious bacteria to the fingernails and consequently the mouth and other people you touch.
  • Crotch rot. This is where there is little air or freedom of movement for the genitals, leading to a build up of moisture, which attracts bacteria and encourages the growths of fungus. Similar to tinea crurus above.
  • Groin ringworm. Similar to crotch rot, but introduces ringworm instead.
  • Lower sperm count. Because the testicles are being pressed against the body, where they have little room to operate and are being overheated by your body heat. In the long run this will affect fertility.

Today you are advised to use compression shorts instead of a jockstrap. The human race has been doing perfectly fine for over 250,000 years (the estimated origin of humans) without jockstraps.

Yes boys should wear a jockstrap in PE class, in sports and at the gym. A jockstrap supports the testicles. It prevents the boy parts from moving around and getting injured. Because if a boy dose not wear a jockstrap, his boy parts will flop around while he is running or playing sports. The only time a boy should wear a cup with his jockstrap is when he is playing baseball, football, hockey, or lacrosse.

Some guys do, yes. Some schools require everyone to wear jockstraps for PE. It's a good idea regardless - better to keep yourself protected and supported.
