Some people only think you need to worry about wearing a cup, but boys should keep their genitals supported anytime they run or workout, to prevent twisting or soreness. At a minimum a guy should wear something supportive like compression shorts, or tight briefs, but jocks really do the best while still letting things breathe. There's youth and teen sizes out there too, so even if you're just starting to grow it's important to start wearing a jockstrap.
