The Expos were moved to Washington and became the Nationals. They moved because they could not find an owner who wanted to buy the team and keep them in Montreal. Support of the team eroded over time for many reasons such as the team being forced to trade all their best players, the strike of 1994 when the Expos were one of the best teams, and the olympic stadium which was far from downtown and not a fan friendly stadium.
Currently there is only one team in the MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays, that is outside the US. Previously there were two in Canada, but that changed when the Montreal Expos moved to Washington, D.C. and became the Nationals in 2004.
