No. Bathurst is not considered a mining town any longer. It is a thriving business centre, close to Sydney, and the home of the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercars race.
At the 2009 Bathurst 1000, the team that finished in second place was the Holden Racing Team, consisting of drivers Garth Tander and Will Davison. They were closely behind the winning team of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup from Triple Eight Race Engineering. The race was notable for its dramatic moments and challenging conditions.
