Hardtack was invented sometime during the revolutionary war. It was popular among armies because it was pretty much good to eat forever, just put it in some water so it softens and your good to go.

Actually it was around before the revolutionary war. dating back to the late 1500's to the late 1800's. Sailors mostly used this food since it was non parishable as long as it stayed dry.. It could actually last for years. In actuallity it can be dated back to the Third Crusades and the Egyptions...
