They are used to record the motion of sports people. A 3D program then takes the movement and is capable of breaking it down so that trainers can see the movement and from this the sports person can improve their style. They also use the video footage to show the motion of the sports person and can slow down, speed up, replay, reverse etc all of the sports persons movements.
