Not speaking of any country in particular, Taekwondo contributes positively to any country's society. Keep in mind that I am specifically addressing the authentic teachings of Korean Taekwondo which includes the tenets, and an ethical and moral code of conduct. Proper instruction instills good character traits such as honesty and integrity that guide students of Taekwondo away from the temptation of criminal behavior, which helps keep crime rates down.

Any country would benefit from citizens who are physically fit, and healthy, lowering the need for unnecessary use of medical insurance and health care costs. Taekwondo students are also trained to be persistent, and strive to reach goals such as achieving a higher education. Taekwondo students and instructors are role models for other people, thus the beneficial attributes spread throughout the population of those who are not even in the Martial Art, but are influenced by its positive message.

Another important aspect of Taekwondo to a country is the stimulation to the economy through successful schools, and events such as local tournaments and national championships. The amount of money pumped into an economy from just one event can range in the millions of dollars (or whatever local currency used).

Is tae kwon do hyung or kata?

Tae Kwon Do is the art of hand and foot fighting. The original empty hand pattens created by gen. Choi were templated from Shotokan Karate. The Gen was a 2nd Dan in Shotokan upon his return to Korea. So the term Hyung is the appropriate reference for the original patterns. The Shotokan Kata,s were also included as part of the original 2nd to 4th Dan requirements for Tae Kwon Do in its infancy. This information can be found in the first publication by Gen. Choi.

How is Tae Kwon Do enjoyable?

Tae Kwon Do is enjoyable in many ways. First, it is a MAJOR stress reliever. Whenever I participate, and feel stressed before class, I feel SO much better when I'm done. Also, if you like physical activity, you would enjoy it. It is a lot of kicking, unlike karate, which is mostly punches. You build a lot of leg muscle. (But not the creepy, over-muscular type!)
