Retail selling was already second nature to Vince Gaffey when he launched his Nutrilite Distributorship in 1950. Vince co-owned a chain of grocery stores with his wife, sister and brother-in-law.
Vince must have applied his retail knowledge well, because two years later he sold his interest in the grocery chain to sell Nutrilite® products full time, joined by all three of his business partners. Their business, named Chapin & Gaffey, enjoyed strong growth through the 1950s.
In the late 1950s, the Gaffeys bought out their partners. Then, in 1959, they converted their Nutrilite Distributorship into an Amway Distributorship, still growing all the while. By 1964, they achieved the Diamond level and were among the 13 couples to travel to the Bahamas on the first Diamond-level incentive trip.
During this time, the Gaffey family was doing a little growing of its own. Vince eventually renamed his independent business Gaffey & Gaffey to reflect the addition of his son and daughter-in-law. The business partnership continues today.
Vince fulfilled several years on Board committees throughout the '60s and '70s. He served as President of the Board in 1976-77.
