Washington. Redbox actually sold groceries at first. It was't until a year later that they decided to focus on DVDs and discontinue groceries. Also Redbox lost money for investors in 2006 and 2007. It was not until 2008 that profits for owners blew up. Coinstar bought Redbox from McDonald's and other investors in anticipation of profits soaring. In 2006 the tentative estimate for Redbox's market percentage of movie rentals was 5%. Now in 2012 the have a hold of an estimated 36%. They plan to expand this roll by launching Redbox instant with Verizon as their joint venture partner.
