In general headgear is a personal thing, everyone has a diffrent sized head, ears and hair length, so what feels nice to someone may be uncomfortable for another person. Personally I don't like any headgear as I find it distracting from the match, but if you find that your ears are constantly being hurt from wrestling it might be an idea to find a vendor at a local store or tournament and try a couple pairs on until you find one that you think is excellent. Ideally you don't want to go to cheap and get one that's made out of crappy material, but sometimes simple is nice, it's all up too what you like... Good luck finding some headgear and on the mats! :)
You must be refering to wwe or that crap and if your talking about Olympic style wrestling or highschool style no there are no books everyone just buys there singlets, headgear, and shoes.
As long as ur opponent is over the age of consent. Cross away.... Swords... Cross swords
There isn't too much that goes into wrestling gear, with only three pieces of equipment mandatory. Wrestlers need to wear a singlet, shoes, and headgear, with knee and arm pads optional. When buying wrestling gear, consider the fit, your wrestling style, and the colors of your wrestling team. Read on for more information on how to choose the perfect wrestling gear. First, you will need to buy a singlet. Singlet are meant to be very tight, so find an option that is tight but still large enough to cover your body. The bottom of a singlet should run to just above your knees. If you feel restricted in your singlet, you will need to find a larger version. If you have a long, skinny frame, singlets may be loose-fitting on you. Look for special sizes made for thinner frames. Next, you will need to buy wrestling shoes. Wrestling shoes are soft and provide optimal grip on the wrestling mat. Look for a pair of wrestling shoes that is flexible and lightweight. In terms of headgear, your primary concern is protection. Some wrestlers opt to forgo wearing headgear during practice, but this can lead to deformed ears. Always wear your headgear when you are on the mat. Look for headgear that fits snugly around your head and can be adjusted to acquire the best fit. The most important part of wrestling headgear is the area over your ears, so be sure this material, most likely plastic, is durable. The fit of the headgear needs to be such that these ear pieces don't move. Lastly, consider buying extra knee or arm pads. Arm pads are fairly rare, but many wrestlers like to wear knee pads because they protect the legs when you go in for a takedown. If you are frequently diving on the mat, a pair of knee pads can prevent injury and pain. Regardless of the equipment you get, be sure to buy it in a color that matches that of your team.
Sometimes in tournaments its optional or manditory but for schools and colleges it is mandatory to prevent cauliflower ear
I would say yes , you need wrestling headgear whenever you do wrestling with someone. It is the best way to protect injuries especially in the head. Head is very much delicate part of our body.

Wrestling is a contact sport. The objective is to outscore the other opponent using contact moves through a specified numbers of periods. Pinning an opponent results in an immediate victory. The only way to wrestle is through close contact. As contact sport participants, wrestlers wear protective equipment such as wrestling headgear. There are probably some questions as to why headgear is worn to protect the ears. It might seem that protecting arms, legs, and torsos would be more important. A wrestler is not likely to get anything in the ear. Ears do not get broken. What does a wrestler fear when it comes to the ear? Certainly headgear protects against cuts and scratches. However, the condition wrestlers are trying to avoid is known as cauliflower ear. Cauliflower ear occurs when the ear sustains an injury that causes blood vessels to burst and form pockets of blood. The pockets can disfigure the ear to the point that the injury resembles cauliflower. Cauliflower ear is not attractive and is painful. The pockets have to be drained to heal. Surgery may be needed. Headgear is well worth the money and most wrestling organizations require headgear be worn. It is important that headgear fit. Headgear that does not fit will not stay over the ears and defeats its purpose. If headgear does not fit snugly, it can become a distraction to a wrestler during a match by working itself into an uncomfortable position or by covering the eyes. Youth headgear should be purchased for those 12 and under and even for some smaller older wrestlers. Adult headgear will fit some middle schoolers and usually those of high school age and up. Wrestlers should make sure there are enough straps that are properly adjusted to keep the gear in place. Grapplers are tough athletes. They endure a great deal just to be able to compete. Competition puts them to the test physically, mentally, and emotionally. Headgear offers a physical level of protection to the ears. Indirectly, headgear also provides mental and emotional protection. Wrestlers need not fear injury in this contact sport if they wear headgear that fits properly.
