Frazier won by unanimous decision and retained the title.

The bout is often ranked as one of the greatest fights of 20th century boxing, and is the climax to the bitter rivalry between Ali and Frazier. Ali won the fight when Frazier's trainer Eddie Futch stopped the fight before the 15th and final round with Frazier sitting on his stool.
