Freestyle wrestling is the modern version of catch-as-catch-can, with a couple of changes to the rules. Professional catch-as-catch-can also included hooking (submissions, pain moves), which were not used during amateur tournaments. Freestyle wrestling came to the olympics under the name catch-as-catch-can, before it was changed to simpler "freestyle".
Its origins have been traced back to as early as 1393. It means to make do with what one has. This phrase was adopted by the wrestling world two or three hundred years ago (Lancashire wrestling) to distinguish free-style wrestling from Greco-Roman wrestling (which doesn't allow certain holds).
Tossing is when you throw something and catch is when u catch the toss
In catch wrestling, you may do strangle hold moves, but in the US old rules they saw this as un-sports man like conduct from the normal style as well, but maybe seen in Shoot Professional wrestling in the USA and else where today, but not in Olympic wrestling which Catch wrestling is not an Olympic sport. In the Japan and Europe, they use these type moves of choking and strangle hold moves. Normal wrestling can be just grappling, but in catch wrestling it may consist of low kicks, throws, and sleeper holds and many other moves. What places did use Catch wrestling? The French word for 'professional wrestling' is 'catch'. There is also the intransitive verb, 'lutter'.
Fetch means "go and bring back." Catch means "grab ball when thrown."
It comes from the phrase "catch as catch can". Basically that means it is freestyle, wrestle however you want to, in whichever style you can.
of course cheerleading is pretty and wrestling is not so pretty In Cheerleading, You either cheer on the sidelines for sports like football or basketball, or cheer on your own terms, your own mats for your own so called sport. In Wrestling, depends on whether Professional wrestling, a Dramatized athletic spectacle, created from Catch wrestling and Martial arts, this kind you dont do in school. In Amateur Wrestling, theres no submissions from Catch as Catch can (Catch), no strikes, weapons, Professional ring, or knockouts or specific match types from professional wrestling, its just the Grappling and pinning part of professional wrestling, NOT ROLLING AROUND as many people say, and theres a points rule that goes around, if your in High school or Middle School, the takedowns, such as Double legs( Spear/ Spinebuster Esque) and High crotches or HI-Cs ( Flapjack Esque) are 2 points, Reversals are 2 points, an escape is 1 point,, a scream equals backpoints ( depends on how much they call) a pin(fall) is a 2 to 3 count and you win the match, unless its nearfall (not the pro style) 2 to 5 points, thats the scoring. There are 3 periods with 3 overtimes, 2 minute periods and 30 second overtimes, i havent even started this sport yet, and i know so much about it (NO offense at all). now thats the full difference between cheerleading and wrestling
