He might have, he might not have, not every man drafted during the Viet War was sent to RVN (Republic of South Vietnam). Cassius Clay (M. Ali) could've been assigned as a cook at Fort Polk Louisiana.
Muhammad Ali
To go against the Vietname War, Muhammad Ali and applied for Conscientious Objector exemption status from the draft, claiming status as a religious minister.
Muhammad Ali the boxer
He said that being drafted and fighting in the Vietnam war was against Islam.
Muhammad Ali was the first person to openly speak to the public about his outrage of the war. His protests started in 1966 when he famously stated, "I ain't got no quarrel with the Vietcong. No Vietcong ever called me n_____." He lost everything (his boxing title and boxing competitions in the future!) as he refused the draft which was illegal during the Vietnam War. After him, the public started to speak their outrage to the war after watching Muhammad Ali declare his opinion. However, many of the public's opinion was based nearly entirely on the media. The media was often biased towards the journalist's opinion on the war.
In the book "Muhammad Ali: The People's Champion" by Walter Dean Myers, Muhammad Ali falls ill after the fight and is taken to the hospital. His illness is a result of his refusal to serve in the Vietnam War and is a turning point in his life that leads to his spiritual transformation.
He felt extreme animocity towards him when he refused to serve in the Vietnam War. Many people refused to consider him American, sadly, when he changed his name from Cassius clay to Muhammad Ali. However, much of that has subsided now as we realize the corruption associated with the Vietnam war and the courage he showed in faithfully following his religion.
Muhammad Ali was drafted in 1967, which meant he would have been inducted into the Army unless he enlisted in the Marine Corps, Navy, or Air Force prior to his induction date. He did not, and in fact declared "I don't have no quarrel with those VietCongs."
He refused the US draft in the Vietnam conflict.
he wasn,t
He refused to be inducted in the military in 1967. That was when the Vietnam War was going on.
Muhammad Ali was scooped up by a consortiam of Louisville businessman and offered a professional contract straight out of the 1960 Olympic Games - Ali won gold in the Light Heavyweight Division. In 1967 however Ali was forced to find work as his World Heavyweight Title was stripped from him for registering as a conscientous objector to the Vietnam War due to reigious beliefs. From 1967 until 1970 Ali received fees from various Universites and organizations for his public speaking engagements. Ali also opened a burger franchise - Champ Burgers - but this failed.
