In a traditional bullfight there are usually 3 matadors and each fights 2 bulls. At times there will be only 2 matadors and each will kill 3 bulls. That is called a mano a mano (hand to hand) fight. There have been a few times in the past when a single matador will appear and fight 6 bulls.

Some smaller venues with less resources may have fewer animals and fighters.
There are many important participants in a bullfight but the main ones are the matador and the bull. Without either of these there could be no bullfight.
There have been 40 matador deaths in the bullring since the early 18th century. This does not include other toreros who participate in bullfights, only full matadors.
533 professional bullfighters have been killed since 1700, of which 79 have been matadors (the others are picadors, banderilleros and novilleros). It depends on the size of the venue but there are usually at least two picadores present at any fight.
Only one or two every five years. Many more before penicillin was invented.
So many people have died in rodeos that bthe government stopped counting. If you plan to be in a rodeo, make sure you: wear lots of padding, make sure the animal is a baby, have a doctor close by, and have many,many people around you, but if you ask me JUST DON'T DO IT!!!
