The martial art is an educational system that varies depending on the chosen curriculum of a particular instructor, school, or organization. The primary objective is to exercise the body to be healthy and fit for physical activities, while also learning advanced skills that can be used for self defense, or other combat situations against one or more opponents. The scientific principles are based on natural forces and laws of physics.

While there is a great deal of technical information available in books, videos, and on the internet, the most effective and efficient way to learn the Martial Art is to become a student under the tutelage of a qualified instructor. To help ensure that the instructor is legitimately trained, and offering authentic and useful knowledge, the wise consumer will check credentials, and find a teacher who is certified and supported by a well-established, accredited organization.

Although many modern-day novice, and self-proclaimed "martial artists" will often label anything to do with fighting or combat as being a legitimate martial art, there are a majority of experts and masters who teach that the Martial Art is truly a way of life where the "way of the warrior" is one of balance and integration of body, mind and spirit, and developing one's character fully with high moral standards and ethics. This warrior's code of conduct is what most experts define as the difference between true Martial Art, and Martial combat which merely focuses on fighting.

The philosophy of masters in the Martial Art is contained in the concept of "do," a variation of the Chinese term "tao," which teaches the benefits of seeking peace and harmony, and doing the ideal action at the ideal time. It is a philosophy of knowing right from wrong, and always choosing to do right. When the mind is confused, and unsure of what path to follow, the warrior seeks spiritual insights and enlightenment.
