yes, he did fight a Japanese wrestler (not sumo) & mixed martial artist named antonio inoki in a 15 round exhibition.
inoki was very limited in what he was allowed to do in the "fight" so he could only drop kick ali in the legs, which almost caused blood clots for Muhammad.
