At UBC, we're very proud of our tradition of sporting excellence. In fact, no university in Canada has won more national championships than UBC in the last 10 years. In addition to success at home, UBC has produced 214 Olympic participants, medal holders in Olympic and world competition and Major League Baseball draft picks.
At both UBC's Vancouver and Okanagan campuses, students can try out for varsity teams in sixteen different sports including hockey, soccer, volleyball, Basketball and swimming. Team try-outs are open. Students interested in playing for a UBC team should contact the coach for more information. UBC's varsity teams participate in Canadian Intervarsity Sport (CIS), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the British Columbia Colleges' Athletic Association (BCCAA).
If competitive sports are not your thing, UBC is also home to Canada's largest intramural sports program. Vancouver and the Okanagan have a growing range of athletic options, whatever your skill level.
You could play in an intramural league sport like soccer, ultimate Frisbee or flag football, take a karate or yoga class, work out in the Recreation Facility, or join friends in special events like Storm the Wall. Intramurals and UBC Rec offer great ways to meet friends, get some exercise, and have fun.
