The value will vary depending on the size, the type of photo, and it's origin. If it is a modern reproduction 8 x 10 photo it would only have a value of about $10.00. Original first generation photos printed from the original negative will have a higher value. The photo could be a news service, press or wire photo. These type of photos could range in value from $20. -$200. with photos that were used in publication having added value.
The team photo could also be part of an advertisement or premium given away with a product or publication. Premium photos do sell at a premium. Teams have also sent out photos in the mail in reply to fan requests.
More information would be needed to give an accurate value, The photo would have to be correctly identified as to it's type, and origin.
Hello, As with any collectible, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. With that being said, factors such as condition of the photo, and the clarity and boldness of the signatures are critical. Also, back in the 1950's, many of the signatures of the star players were considered "club house" signatures. They were signed by a designated person other than the player himself. That could include the clubhouse manager or even the ball boy. Obviously Mantle is the key signature on that piece. The next most important one is Billy Martin. Ford, Berra, and Rizzuto are also good ones. If all team members signed it, it should have close to 35 player signatures. The book value on a piece like that, if it is an 8x10 or similar size, and in near mint condition would be retail of about $3000-$4000. With that being said, I would estimate it would sell for around $1000-$1500. Having the Yankees win the World Series that year does help the value. Remember to have all the history you can about the piece before trying to sell it. Do your homework and take your time. Remember, the memorabilia market is dead right now and shows little signs of recovery. Mantle pieces that were selling for $800-$100 are now selling for $200 or less. It is a buyers market, but as always beware of the countless forgeries. Good luck and I hope that helps. I could give you a better estimate if I could see some scans or photos of the piece.
A 1949 New York Yankees Team SignedPhoto with the key signatures: Stengel, Rizzuto, DiMaggio, Berra, Raschi, Mize, and Reynolds is worth about $500.-$700.
Value is based on average prices of recently closed auctions. Prices may vary based on condition, and the type of authenticity that accompanies the photo. Prices may also vary based on the amount of signatures, and key signatures acquired. The more complete the photo with key signatures the more valuable.
If the signatures are not properly authenticated the Baseball could sell at half the market value or less
