Authentic or Authentication is the verifying of originality or genuineness of a sports collectibles item. For sports cards, the largest and most respected third party authentication (and grading) is Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). For sports Autographs, the most well known authentication service is PSA/DNA. For other Sports Memorabilia items you must depend on the selling dealer's knowledge and integrity. An example: a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Baseball card number 311 is authentic, as opposed to a fake card produced to fool an un expecting buyer, or as opposed to an official reproduction of the card. An official reproduction of the card can be considered to be an authentic reproduction, but not the real deal.
