Congressman and dignitaries are often seen sporting lapel pins in meetings and high-profile events. Lapel pins are used to encourage good grades, promote a service or product, identify members of a workforce or when fundraising.

People that choose to wear them may do so for ornamental, business or political reasons. Often times on holidays, people will don a Christmas tree pin for Christmas, or a bunny pin for Easter. Ornamental pins are used for parties, social events and even church meetings or a casual get-together. Business pins are worn by members of an organization to identify themselves as belonging to a particular company. Political lapel pins are often used to identify the political party and often either have the parties name, symbol or current political leader. They are usually inexpensive and can be distributed to a large number of people easily.
