A coin toss or similar is employed to determine which team goes first. The game is broken up into turns, with an even number of turns available: however, the "instant win" feature means that there is an advantage to going last. The goals ("kans") are spaced approximately 50 feet apart. Teams consist of two people each standing at opposite ends of the playing field. One player throws the disk, while the other performs the function of the "deflector" - he or she is free to move anywhere, as opposed to the thrower, but the deflector is not permitted to catch, carry or double hit the disc.

No points are awarded if a) the thrower goes over the line, or b) the disc hits the ground. Three points are awarded to the attacking team if the opposition interferes with the shot
