The most expensive card of any player (typically) is the rookie year card. The value of any card is determined by its popularity which is in turn determined by the popularity of the player...note that popularity and player performance are not always tied together. You can see this phenomenon with Bob Welch cards. he won a Cy Young award and some key World Series games...but he was always in the shadow of other pictures..Fernando Valenzuela...Orel Hershiser. his rookie card in mint condition might go for around 20 bucks. most of his other cards will likely go for under two dollars...maybe more if you sell them in Southern Cal.
