The yard stick which was published in Y&Y and was used at the 2007 Multi-Hull Regatta at Rutland water is 1200. There were actually no Martin's there on the day but they had originally plan for it but... In addition during a very bored moment I went onto the Sail USA web site, which has a published py for the martin 16, however the US version is different to the UK. I look at some boats, which were identical, both here and there and did a little linear interpolation (maths) and the figure that came out was 1198. Rob Wright

KEEL
The keel boat was invented to provide stability and maneuverability to boats, especially in rough waters. The addition of a keel helps prevent capsizing and allows for better control over the boat's direction.
The keel is important because it forces the boat to move forwards when the force of the wind on the sails might also be pushing the boat sideways. The keel stops the boat simply going directly downwind.
The distance between the bottom and the keel of a boat is the draught (British English).
