When pirates referred to the "Seven Seas" they were referring to the seven major seas or oceans on the earth which include the North Atlantic ,the South Atlantic, the North Pacific ,the South Pacific, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic and the Antarctic Ocean.
The seas can be rough in December when sailing in the Caribbean because its Hurricane Season. Most Cruise ship will have to sail through rolling seas at some point, but they do shy away from the major storms.

Legends say that pirates usually planned to sail the seven seas. The seven seas are known today as; (1) Caspian Sea (2) Persian Gulf (3) Black Sea (4) Red Sea (5) Mediterranean Sea (6) Arabian Sea (is part of the Indian Ocean) (7) Indian Ocean The reason why pirate preferred these seven seas is because they were all mainly used for trading purposes by merchants. Merchants, obviously being the best target for pirates as they would carry the most valuable commodities.
