The Nassau County, New York Sports Commission is responsible for the administration of the John Mackey Award. It is given annually to the most outstanding Tight End in Division 1-A college football. In 2000 the first award was presented to Tim Stratton, Purdue. The commission to create the bronze sculpture award was given to Edith Rae Brown, Sculptor, Greenvale, New York and presented to Tim Stratton by John Mackey along with Edith Rae Brown. In 2000, Dr. Gary Wadler was Executive Director of The Nassau County Sports Commission.
