As head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978, Mr. Madden flew on chartered jets. When he started as a broadcaster in 1979 he hated flying and the claustrophobia it caused. That is when he decided that he would not fly anymore. At first he took the train from game to game. Then there was a time when the train schedule did not work with his work schedule so CBS, the network he was working for at the time, rented Dolly Parton's tour bus for him. Soon after that he got his own tour bus. Now he rides around in the Madden Cruiser.
