The term "Chinese Bandits" was coined by LSU head football coach Paul Dietzel in the 1950s to boost morale and associate his defense with a fearless and aggressive mentality. It has since become a tradition for the LSU defense, but its origin does not have any actual connection to China or Chinese culture.
