To the best of my knowledge the only coaches to accomplish this in their first year are Terry Bowden in 1993 at Auburn and Chris Petersen in 2007 at Boise State. Unfortunately for Bowden and his team, that was also the first year of sanctions that had been handed down on Auburn from the NCAA and they were ineligible for post season play and national title consideration.
